Library Cards
In order to apply for a Henika District Library card an adult must present a valid State of Michigan driver's license or ID with the current local address on it. If either of those cannot be used we will accept two other forms of ID that have the current local address, such as printed checks, a health insurance card, a copy of a lease agreement or a paid utility bill stub, in any combination. Children under the age of eighteen must have a parent accompanying them who will act as co-signer on the borrowing agreement. Parents must produce identification as mentioned above.
Replacement library cards will be created for a $2.00 fee if your card has been lost, stolen or damaged such that the bar code can no longer be scanned.
For residents who live outside the legal area of the Henika District Library we will issue you a library card for your home library if you live in Dorr, Hopkins, Leighton Township or Middleville (at this time we are not issuing cards for residents of Monterey township and Watson township.). Residents of other municipalities outside the boundaries of the Lakeland Library Cooperative will be charged an annual non-resident fee for a Henika District Library card.
Loan Periods
The Henika District Library lends its materials for two distinct lengths of time:
- Magazines, PS2, XBOX & Wii Games and videos (DVD) 7 days
- All other materials 21 days
When you check out materials you will be given a receipt listing each item and its due date.
You may sign up for email notification which will send you email three days prior to the due date of your materials as a courtesy reminder. This service will also let you know when items on hold are available for pick-up, and when items are overdue.
Overdue Fines
Overdue fines accumulate at a rate of 15 cents per day for all items. Maximum book fines are $4.95 per book. Maximum video fines are $10.00.
After Hours Item Return
Library users may use the green book return located on the south side of the building. Please place AV items that fit in the top slot only. Books that fit should be placed through the bottom slot. All other items should be brought into the building during open hours.
Suspension of Borrowing Privileges
A patrons borrowing privileges are suspended when he has two or more items overdue from the library, or when fines on overdue materials exceed $1.99.
Cell Phones, Pagers and Two-way Radios
Cell phones, pagers and two-way radios are to be silenced before a patron enters the building.
Computer Use
The Henika District Library has patron Internet access. The Henika District Library does use a filtering system on its network to protect against sexually undesirable content. Filtering, however, is an imperfect tool, and patrons are forewarned that this is no guarantee against offensive material appearing.
Patrons are free to use their wireless devices. If you are interested click here for our wireless policy.
